On a bright and beautiful Austin morning, leaders from across the city gathered at the historic Victory Grill for a powerful and uplifting community event: the Building Connections Breakfast, hosted by Adisa Communications and The Bingham Group, and proudly presented by The Carleton Companies. The occasion? A heartfelt welcome for Davon Barbour, the newly appointed President and CEO of the Downtown Austin Alliance.

This wasn’t just another networking event. It was a moment of significance for Austin’s Black leaders and allies to come together, connect meaningfully, and engage with the man now tasked with shaping the future of downtown Austin.

Davon Barbour, a seasoned urban strategist with more than two decades of experience revitalizing downtowns across the country—from Baltimore to Hollywood to Miami—now brings his vision and leadership to the heart of Texas. As the first African American to hold the position at the DAA, his appointment marks both a historical milestone and an opportunity for intentional, inclusive growth in our capital city.

“I want to ensure that downtown is for everyone,” Davon shared. “Stay engaged with us so that you are aware of our programming and what we are doing.”

The breakfast gathering created an open, welcoming space for conversation and connection. Community members, business owners, civic leaders, and advocates shared ideas, offered support, and built new bridges in a setting infused with purpose and possibility.

“Our goal was simple: create space for real dialogue and real relationships,” said co-host Shuronda Robinson, CEO of Adisa Communications. “Davon’s presence—and the presence of so many thoughtful community leaders—reminds us that building a more equitable Austin starts with showing up and breaking bread together.”

As Davon shared his hopes for downtown Austin and emphasized the importance of partnerships rooted in trust and equity, it became clear: this is just the beginning.
