City of Austin Safe Routes to School Infrastructure Plan
The Assignment
The City of Austin needed to make parents and families aware of infrastructure improvements in bike lanes and sidewalks designed to increase student safety and remove barriers to getting children to and from school safely. The efforts for its Safe Routes to School Infrastructure Program would need to reach 131 diverse schools, and their adjacent communities, across seven ISDs in Central Texas.
The Adisa Team Solution
The Adisa team developed the strategy and tactical execution for the program, beginning with an extensive outreach database of stakeholders and messaging. The team then used the messaging to create collateral materials for school officials, parents, guardians and students. Over an 18-month period, the Adisa team helped lead five critical community meetings and 75 “pop-up events” to collect survey data in English, Spanish, and Mandarin.
The Result
The collected data was instrumental in finding gaps in awareness and education about the improvements so that outreach could be effectively targeted and more school families could access the city’s improved and safe passages to and from school throughout Central Texas.
